 100 years ago, Seattle was experiencing tremendous growth and prosperity. People were arriving daily by train, wagon and boat in search of work, hope and a piece of land to call home. It is during this time that a group of real estate practitioners known as the Seattle Real Estate Association sought to improve the business of real estate by helping establish a national organization of real estate professionals.
In 1908 the Seattle Real Estate Association joined 19 other local real estate associations in Chicago, Illinois to form the first ever National Association of Real Estate Exchanges.
From then till now, many aspects of the business of real estate have changed. The structures have changed, the way people live has changed, but the premise of organizing for the good of consumers, and the profession, has remained the same.
Even today, our principles of honesty, integrity, and professionalism in real estate remain the foundation upon which we have built this prestigious organization.

"Honoring Community Spirit"
With an unwavering commitment to nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest and a lifetime giving of more than $900 million, investor and philanthropist Paul G. Allen will be honored as recipient of the 2008 Seattle-King County First Citizen Award.
In announcing the selection, the Seattle-King County Assoc. of REALTORS said Allen, founder and chairman of Vulcan Inc., will be recognized at a civic banquet on October 30 at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel & Towers.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the prestigious award, which was created by the Seattle-King County Association of REALTORS® in 1939 to celebrate community leadership, volunteerism and public service.
