King County Point-of-Sale Mandate Corrected

Recently, the King County Council explored the addition of energy improvement policies in the King County Strategic Climate Action Plan.  Among the policies was a point-of-sale energy improvement mandate on buildings. These policies can kill transactions and add costs to sellers who are not flush with cash.  

Seattle King County REALTORS® educated councilmembers about the drawbacks of point-of-sale mandates in terms of transaction delay and added costs to sellers (many of whom may have little equity in their home).  The council was responsive and redirected plan elements to more voluntary programs.
