2017 Hill Day Series: Senator Fain sponsors housing solutions bill
A bill to help increase housing options in the Puget Sound region has been introduced by Senator Joe Fain of the 47th district in South King County. In a meeting with REALTORS® in Olympia, Senator Fain explained the need to address the severe shortage of homes in King County for the past four years. His bill will make changes in state law to help cities encourage the development of new and affordable homes in areas that allow workers to live closer to their jobs. The bill, SB 5254, already has a number of co-sponsors.
“Senator Fain has been a strong supporter of housing choices for consumers,” said Roni Strupat, broker with REMAX Performance Plus and 2016 Vice President of Government Affairs for Washington REALTORS®. “His bill will allow growth planning to be more responsive to actual housing market demand. Housing production has not kept pace with job creation in the past five years in King County.”
REALTORS® are supporting a number of different proposals to address these problems that will assist buyers and renter at all levels of income and need.
