What is the Battle of the Barristers, anyway?
With “the most informative and entertaining real estate legal event of the year” fast approaching, some new REALTOR® members are wondering what to expect at the Battle of the Barristers clock-hour program. The event’s fast pace and animated debate between brilliant real estate attorneys makes Battle of the Barristers a REALTOR® can’t-miss.
Back this year to moderate is Mike Spence, partner at Helsell Fetterman LLC. Joining Spence as Barristers are Jeannie Simpson, Chris Osborn, Lars Neste, and Doug Tingvall. Osborn, Neste, and Tingvall have all been around the Barrister block; new to the crew this year is Simpson, general counsel for John L. Scott.
Simpson brings nearly two decades of real estate law experience to the table from her current work overseeing legal issues across departments at John L. Scott, and from her previous work in the real estate groups at Morrison & Foerster LLP in Tokyo and Palo Alto and at Foster Pepper PLLC in Seattle. She also taught as an adjunct law professor at Seattle University’s School of Law.
As for this year’s hot debate topics, we can’t know for sure what roads our Barristers will lead us down, but we can make some pretty good guesses:
- Advertising
- Intellectual property/copyright issues
- Multiple offers/escalation addenda
- Off market sales
- Advising a client to seek expert advise
- Financing contingency issues
- Pre-inspections
Battle of the Barristers is part legal debate, case law, practical broker do’s and don’ts, and fundraising – all wrapped up into one lively event.
Register here for this year’s Battle, on March 29 from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the Hilton Bellevue. The event counts as 3 clock-hours.
All ticket proceeds from this event help fund REALTOR® scholarships. The SKCR First Citizen Scholarship Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible. Find out more about the scholarship program.
We’d like to thank the Mark Sanelli team from Chase for being this year’s Major Sponsor, as well as our Supporting Sponsors and Annual Affiliate Partners for helping us make this event possible.
