Sam DeBord to lead on MLS issues as NAR liaison
Former Seattle King County REALTORS® President Sam DeBord has been named the NAR President’s liaison to various national committees that deal with MLS and data technology. DeBord and his wife Liz were recognized at the NAR annual meeting in Boston earlier this month by 2019 NAR President John Smaby and other officers of the National Association of REALTORS®. In his role as the MLS and Data Management Committee Liaison, DeBord will report to the President and the NAR Executive Committee on MLS issues.
DeBord rose to prominence last year when he was asked by the Chair of NAR’s MLS Policy Committee to help develop and present to the NAR Board a new policy called “MLS of Choice”. This much needed, but controversial rule, which affects MLS’s around the country, allows individual sales associates to subscribe to only one MLS, while the broker-owner may participate in several. The rule is designed to prompt MLS’s to be as efficient as possible in delivery of service.
“Working as a volunteer, committee member, and leader at NAR has had a huge impact on my knowledge of the industry,” said DeBord. “REALTORS® have to get out of their own market to understand the differences in business models, regulatory environments, and practices that exist across the country.”
DeBord will also serve as 2019 liaison for several other committees, including the Data Strategies Committee and Emerging Business & Technology Forum, among others.
“Working with leaders at NAR exposes you to so much more that can give you insights and ideas as to how you can improve your own business, and your local association. Add to that the many friends and business associates you’ll bring to your network, and it’s an invaluable experience,” said DeBord.
DeBord will also serve as the Vice President of Government Affairs for Washington REALTORS® in 2019. He is a past President for Seattle King Country REALTORS® and received the 2017 SKCR REALTOR® of the Year Award.
