Hill Day 2019: Over 500 REALTORS® hit the hill to help our housing crisis

“If you’re silent, legislators don’t hear from you. And if they don’t hear from you, you don’t make a difference.” That was the opening message from Secretary of State Kim Wyman at Washington REALTORS® annual Legislative Hill Day this morning.

Making a difference is exactly why over 70 Seattle King County REALTORS® and affiliates made the trip to Olympia Thursday to meet with legislators. Their mission? Make affordable housing opportunities the #1 issue in the legislature this year.

“REALTORS® are down in Olympia today, but there’s a huge coalition working on housing affordability issues of groups that normally don’t team up. The recent news from Microsoft is inspiring, but there’s a lot more work to be done,” said 2018 SKCR President Shane Davies.

REALTORS® stood out from the crowd this year with bright white and blue “Unlock the Door for Affordable Homeownership” scarves to remind legislators about the coalition and its mission. In nearly 55 meetings throughout the afternoon, legislators expressed optimism that they will make headway on the housing crisis this year. Early indications are that there are numerous housing bills, many of which have bipartisan support.

Thank you to everyone who made their voice heard at Hill Day to better our communities and restore affordability to our region. Seattle King County REALTORS® also thanks our legislators for taking time out of their busy schedules to listen and talk about workable solutions.

See you next year on the Hill!
