Residential construction restarts as King County mayors ask for relief

Governor Jay Inslee announced a phase 1 restart of the construction industry on April 24. Construction job sites must comply with a 30-point safety plan, which includes social distancing, personal protective equipment, frequent sanitation of the site and safety training for workers.

Residential construction projects with fewer than seven workers are not required to have a dedicated COVID-19 supervisor on site. A daily log of workers and visitors must be retained for at least four weeks.

The Governor announced that the safety plan was developed and agreed to by a working group of construction and labor officials. Earlier in the week, nine mayors from South King County had requested that the Governor consider a restart of construction projects.

Many real estate brokers have asked when home construction for their clients could begin again.
