Focusing on Fair Housing During Black History Month
“Be intentional. If you’re not intentionally inclusive, you’re unintentionally exclusive.” Instructor Nate Johnson set this tone for REALTOR® members who took the Focus on Fair Housing course offered by Seattle King County REALTORS® on February 10 which encouraged open discussion.
The Fair Housing course discussed the history and evolution of the Fair Housing Act and how it impacts our society today, countering implicit bias, and the drastic measures to address fair housing.
Nate is the President of Real Estate Solutions and served as the 2018 President of the Missouri Association of REALTORS®. He currently serves as the NAR Liaison for Public & Federal Issues and Chairman of the Sustainability Advisory Board for NAR. Nate instructs classes and speaks to groups around the country on a variety of topics including Smart Growth, Fair Housing, Ethics, Business Development & Leadership.
“Learning the history of housing discrimination was very helpful to understanding our system as it is today,” said Cindy Silverstein, Residential Broker at Windermere Real Estate. “Instructor Nate Johnson engages well with the students and answers every question that is posed in a very thoughtful way. This should be a mandatory course for all REALTORS®.”
Seattle King County REALTORS® is hoping to offer the Focus on Fair Housing course again this year.
