Press Release: Nominations Sought for 84th Seattle-King County First Citizen Award

BELLEVUE, Washington (February 2, 2022) – Residents throughout King County who give back to their communities enrich the lives of their fellow citizens. Since 1939, local REALTORS® have singled out a compassionate individual, family, or group whose generous gifts of “time, talent, and treasure for the greater good” deserve recognition.

Seattle King County REALTORS® and the presenting sponsors of the 84th annual Seattle-King County First Citizen Award are seeking nominations for the 2022 honor. The recipient will be celebrated at a not-for-profit civic event later this year.

Letters of nomination for the 2022 First Citizen, together with any supporting material about their exemplary vision, volunteerism, leadership, and generosity should be sent by Friday, February 11 to the First Citizen Selection Committee, c/o Seattle King County REALTORS® (SKCR), 12410 SE 32nd St., Suite 100, Bellevue, Washington 98005 or submitted by email to Darla White, dwhite@nwrealtor.com. Nominees should be current or former residents of King County.

The list of past recipients reflects a broad cross-section of citizens from myriad interests and causes. Former honorees have been associated with humanitarian organizations, charitable, health and educational institutions, arts groups, environmental and economic development causes, and various civic endeavors.

Last year’s honoree, beloved pediatrician Benjamin S. Danielson, MD, was recognized for his tireless advocacy for health equity and commitment to youth. In 2020, businessman Tomio Moriguchi, retired chairman and CEO of family-owned Uwajimaya, and the Moriguchi family were named First Citizens, in part for their dedication to bettering cultural relations and serving as role models for Asian American and Pacific Islander youth.

The First Citizen Award is believed to be this region’s most senior citation of its kind. It has no fund-raising expectation, but instead is designed solely as a nonprofit celebration of community engagement. In 2016 John L. Scott Real Estate and Windermere Real Estate joined SKCR as presenting partners of the award and banquet.

The Seattle King County REALTORS® is a nonprofit professional trade association whose goals include promoting ethical business practices and supporting policies that preserve and expand real property rights and housing affordability. Based in Bellevue, SKCR has more than 7,700 members and is a local board of the National Association of REALTORS®.
