$56,000 in scholarships awarded to 2022 applicants

The Seattle-King County First Citizen Scholarship Foundation is excited to announce that thanks to member generosity, 33 applicants will receive a 2022 scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to high school and college applicants, as well as our REALTOR® members, who demonstrate a commitment to community service.

“For the second year I’ve had the honor of chairing the committee reviewing the heartwarming applications from high school and college students who step up to the leadership plate and through their actions help improve their communities – all while also maintaining impressive academic records,” said Gina Madeya, Scholarship Foundation Chair. “This year 33 students received a total of $56,000 and it was a privilege to grant those funds to individuals who we know will continue to enrich the lives of others through their commitment to service.”

The Foundation is awarding the $5,000 Steven Wayne Memorial Scholarship to the top-rated college applicant, Cassie Larson, sponsored by REALTOR® member Susan Larson.

Each year the Foundation considers naming a scholarship as a tribute to leaders within the Seattle King County REALTOR® community.  This year the Foundation honors Past President Steven Wayne. Steven was our 2003 President and served the Association in many capacities for over 30 years including our Board of Directors. He was adept at political affairs and advocating for the industry at the local, state and national level in promoting home ownership and held the status of Distinguished Life Member since 2011. Steven was named the Seattle King County REALTOR® of the Year in 2001 and received the Achievement Award in 1997. Steven passed away in 2021.

The chief fundraising event for the Scholarship Foundation is the annual Battle of Barristers, which is a fundraising event that brings members legal advice while benefitting the Foundation. Stay tuned for this year’s Battle of the Barristers date.
