Congratulations to our Q3 Good Neighbor, Tina McDonough!

Building community and being the hope. That’s the foundation of the work that our Q3 Good Neighbor Tina McDonough, REALTOR® at RE/MAX Select, and her team who are active year-round not only fighting cancer, but also helping patients and their families.

Tina began participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-day 60-mile walk for her friend who passed away due to breast cancer in 2007. During the same year, she formed her own walking team – Valley Girls & Guys – to raise money and further support Susan G. Komen’s 3-Day Walk for a Cure, which went from four walkers to nearly hundreds, becoming the largest team in the nation for Susan G. Komen. In 2014, Valley Girls & Guys officially became a 501(c)3 non-profit to focus on all types of cancers and has raised over $7 million since 2007.

Valley Girls & Guys sends blankets of “comfort and hope” all over the world, offers breast cancer mammograms and many other resources, and also funds local high school scholarships in the Kent, Tahoma, and Enumclaw School Distrcits. They have opened The Who House by harnessing the power of community to support cancer patients and their families in a comfortable space.

Together, they have sent over 1,900 blankets of comfort and hope to cancer patients all over the world and have sent many kids to Camp Kesem.

Through their Be the Hope walks and collective efforts, Valley Girls & Guys have donated over $670,000 to Valley Medical Center and their new Cancer Center, and over $300,000 to Seattle Children’s to fund the gap in clinical trials and their Strive02 Solid Tumor Immunotherapy Clinical Trial and Leukemia Trial for pediatric cancer. They have also funded nearly $250,000 to the University of Washington for both breast and ovarian vaccine clinical trials.

“By forming Valley Girls & Guys, we have provided a place where people can come together and do something for the greater good and an organization as a resource for people going through the cancer journey, treatment and survivorship to come to along with their co-survivors, family and friends,” said Tina. “We/I will continue to be the hope for others every single day.”

Tina has been honored by Susan G. Komen for her leadership and she was also selected as the National Association of REALTORS®’ one of five 2013 Good Neighbor award winners. The Valley Girls & Guys have been awarded many local awards.

Seattle King County REALTORS® congratulates Tina for her award and appreciates her huge contributions and dedication to our community.
