Affiliates Collect Over 1,000 lbs at the annual food drive

Seattle King County REALTORS® members collected 1,117 lbs of food and hygiene items and $1,030 for the Rainier Valley Food Bank as part of the annual Food Drive hosted by the Affiliate Council. The event on August 14, 2025, was organized in honor of Steven Wayne, 2003 President of Seattle King County REALTORS® and Windermere broker, who was a devoted volunteer at RVFB before he died in 2021.

“Steven Wayne would be so proud,” said Janet Olson, Affiliate Director for SKCR and the Chair of the Affiliate Council. “There are so many people in need in our county and this kind of community effort goes a long way. We are so grateful for the generosity of SKCR members who took the time to donate!”

The Rainier Valley Food Bank is the primary emergency food resource for South Seattle neighborhoods—a racially, ethnically, and economically diverse area where multi-million-dollar homes are down the street from public housing. In 2024 RVFB distributed 1.1 million lbs of food, supporting 16,400 people. This fall, RVFB is opening a new community food hub that will house the current food bank and create space for new community programs.

Sponsored by Gentle Giant Moving Company, the Food Drive event is part donation center, part summer picnic. The red Gentle Giant truck is parked in the SKCR parking lot with movers to do the heavy lifting, and the Affiliate Council offers hot dogs, snacks, and beverages to everyone who stops by the truck.
